Peter Smitham

Dr. Smitham is an orthopaedic surgeon with extensive experience in orthopaedic trauma, hip, knee and lower limb care. He currently serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide and as a Consultant at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, combining clinical practice with cutting edge research and medical education.

Experience in the UK and Fellowship Training:

Dr. Smitham brings a wealth of experience from his time in the UK, including positions at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, London. He completed fellowship examinations in both the UK and Australia and further honed his skills with a one year fellowship in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty followed by a further years fellowship in complex orthopaedic trauma surgery.

Peter is dedicated to staying at the forefront of medical research and utilising the latest advancements in orthopaedic care to deliver innovative treatments. His commitment to excellence has been recognised with awards and fellowships, including recognition from the British Orthopaedic Research Society travelling fellowship with visitations to Hospital for Special Services (New York), Charité Institute (Berlin) and Prince of Wales Hospital (Hong Kong) and the 9th Peoples Hospital (Shanghai).  In 2022 he was a finalist in the SA Science & Innovation Awards and the Executive Dean Award for Teaching Excellence.
